There are about 200
known minerals but only less than 100 are of economy importance. Minerals may
accumulate extensively and form mineral deposits.

which a metal maybe extracted profitably is called a mineral ore.

A rich nickel deposit
is found in Nonoc Island, Surigao Del Norte. It is also believe to be found in
Davao Oriental, Palawan, Romblon, Samar, Camarines Norte and Occidental
Mindoro.

Ores are rocks or
minerals deposits from which metals such as gold, silver, copper, platinum or
lead can be detained commercially. Areas where diggings are made to extract
mineral ores are called mines.
The important iron
sources of the Philippines are those in Ilocos Norte, Camatines Norte,
Cotabato, Nueva Vizcaya, Surigao, Cagayan Valley, Marinduque, Zamboanga, Samar,
Bulacan and Davao.
The principal deposits
of gold silver are found in Benguet. Camarines Norte, Masbate, Bulacan, and
Surigao.
Metals a important. The
properties of metals make them useful for specific purposes. Iron is the main
material for steel bars used in buildings and road construction. Copper is used
in making electrical wires. Tin is the material for milk cans and other
preserved food products. Nickel is mixed with copper or other materials to form
stainless cooking wares. Gold is important in making jewelry.
